LPG - Liquefied Petroleum Gas is a mixture of propane and butane, petrol vehicles fitted with a LPG conversion can make around a 40% reduction on fuel cost and also save on congestion charging by applying to the Transport for London.
Biodiesel is produced from renewable energy sources such as rapeseed, sunflower or soybean oil. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Raw vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications, it is not registered with the EPA, and it is not a legal motor fuel.
Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a bio fuel alternative to gasoline. This is a renewable resource (can be produced, unlike petroleum which cannot be produced and in time will be gone).
Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are seen as one possible way to dramatically cut the quantity of greenhouse gas emissions at some point in the future. The hydrogen used in the cells is extracted from natural gas, or petrol, and a simple chemical reaction between this and oxygen produces energy.
Natural Gas (CNG) is a fossil fuel substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel. Although its combustion does produce greenhouse gases, it is a more environmentally clean alternative to those fuels. In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, CNG is starting to be used also in light-duty passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, medium-duty delivery trucks, transit and school buses, and trains.
An electric car is a type of alternative fuel car that utilizes electric motors and motor controllers instead of an internal combustion engine (ICE). Currently, in most cases, electrical power is derived from battery packs carried on board the vehicle. Other energy storage methods that may come into use in the future include the use of ultra capacitors, or storage of energy in a spinning flywheel.
